TEAM KATANA

TEAM KATANA:

I chose the katana, which is a mythical blade from centuries past, as a symbol of our team because of how it was constructed, it's qualities, and what it stood for.

"The katana is not just a piece of metal, it is a highly refined and beautiful work of art. It is a symbol of pride and honor."

"The process of constructing a katana involves weeks, months and sometimes years of shaping and strengthening the steel to continually remove small imperfections. A detailed, polished result is what remains.  Every individual one has a different face and personality."

"A sword is not about fighting and war; It should be used to remove fear and doubt. It involves using razor sharp attention to cut through illusions to look at ourselves and how we can improve ourselves."

The sport of gymnastics is about detail, strength, flexibility, balance, and honor. These are the same aspects that describe a katana. Our competitive athletes here at BEST exemplify these characteristic in their rigorous daily training, and also when they walk out on to the competitive floor. Each gymnast is unique, is respected, and by bringing their own individual facets to our team, they help to shape our success as a whole. Our squad is based on both the USAG Junior Olympic and USA Elite International Level expectations. We believe in allowing our athletes to show us how many hours they want to train, what meets they want to attend, and how serious they are about accomplishing their goals. For over 9 years now, we are proud to provide a vehicle for them to be successful at all levels from local Level 4 to Elite.

"The Katana: Noble, sharp, and strong, yet flexible and clear - qualities demonstrated through our actions."
